My story begins on an ordinary summer evening in Palm Coast, Florida. My wife and I were taking our usual walk through the neighborhood. The heat was heavy, the sun was strong, and for a moment I felt a little unsteady on my feet. My vision seemed slightly off. I brushed it aside — just the Florida heat, I told myself.
But the next day, it happened again.
This time, something inside me said, Go to the hospital.
The doctors first thought I had a stroke. Oddly enough, I felt relieved — I had no facial drooping, no paralysis, no signs of stroke damage. I thought, Okay, maybe this is something simple.
Then they ordered an MRI.
When I returned to the room, I saw a look on my wife’s face I had never seen before. She sat quietly, trying to be strong, but her eyes told me everything. The doctor came in and said the words that changed my life:
“We found a mass in your brain.”
She didn’t know what it was. She couldn’t tell me what it meant. And in that moment, fear entered my life in a way I had never known.
The Journey Begins
Before I could process anything, I was transported from Palm Coast down to Daytona Beach Hospital. There, another doctor examined the scans and told me:
“You have a brain tumor. I can’t operate — I don’t have the equipment or experience for a tumor in this location.”
The next morning, I was sent up to UF Gainesville.
That’s where I heard the worst words a person can hear:
“Peter, you have cancer.”
Fear. Uncertainty. Disbelief. My faith — everything — went spinning.
I kept thinking, How can this be? I was just out walking after dinner. I had no warning. No symptoms. No idea this was coming.
It felt like a nightmare I couldn’t wake up from.
Surgery, Prognosis, and the Weight of Mortality
The next step was brain surgery.
Afterward, the doctors told me something no one is ever prepared to hear — that I had a certain amount of time to live.
My mind went wild.
Fear grips you in a way that is indescribable. Anger hits. Questions flood your soul. What do I do with the time I have left? What about the time I wasted? What happens next?
But in the middle of that storm, something — someone — broke through the fear.
The Seed of MaryLives: A Sister’s Simple Instruction
Long before my diagnosis, long before hospitals and MRIs and surgery, my life was not going well — personally or professionally. I had many of the material things of this world, but inside I felt empty, restless, and spiritually lost.
My sister Carol — God bless her soul — saw it.
One day she said to me, simply:
“Peter, pray the Rosary.”
I made excuses. I resisted. I told myself I was too busy, too distracted, too overwhelmed.
But Carol insisted:
“Keep praying. Your life will start changing.”
So I started — just a little at a time.
And slowly, something began to shift.
I stopped worrying about the past. I stopped fearing the future. People began responding to me differently — with kindness, warmth, openness. Doors opened that I never expected.
Serendipitous things happened — things I knew were not coincidences.
I received a raise. Our second mortgage was paid off because we had unknowingly been part of a toxic loan. Blessings began to unfold in ways I could not explain.
That’s when I realized:
Jesus and Mary were the only things in my life with real meaning.
And from that realization — from Carol’s simple instruction — MaryLives was born.
Today, three years later, MaryLives is growing across Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and beyond. We receive prayer victories and miracle reports every single day. People are finding hope, healing, and peace through Mary’s intercession.

Faith Tested, Faith Strengthened
When I heard the words “you have cancer,” my faith was tested in a way I never imagined.
But I remembered Jeremiah 1:5: “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.”
I remembered Carol’s voice: “Offer all of your pain and suffering for others.”
And I remembered the miracles I believe in — the miracle of waking up this morning, the miracle that I am still here, the miracle that I did not die of a massive heart attack, the miracle that God gave me another day.
In the darkest moments, Scripture became a lifeline:
“The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.” (Psalm 34:18)
“Do not be afraid, for I am with you.” (Isaiah 41:10)
“My grace is sufficient for you.” (2 Corinthians 12:9)
These words were not just verses — they were oxygen.
I realized something profound:
True life on earth is not about self-gratification. It is about total self-denial, unconditional love, and leading others to Christ through Our Blessed Mother.
This illness didn’t destroy my faith — it revealed it. It didn’t end my mission — it clarified it. It didn’t take away my purpose — it sharpened it.
A Message to the Sick and Suffering
If you are reading this and you are sick, afraid, or suffering, I want you to know:
I have been where you are. I have felt what you feel. I have cried the tears you cry.
And I want to tell you something with all my heart:
You are not alone. You are not forgotten. You are not abandoned.
Fear does not mean you lack faith. Crying does not mean you are weak. Uncertainty does not mean God has left you.
Your suffering has meaning. Your pain has purpose. Your life still has mission.
Hold the Rosary. Even if you cannot pray the words, hold it. Let Mary hold you.
She will lead you to Jesus — the Divine Physician, the Healer of hearts, the One who walks with you through every valley.
