October: The Month of the Holy Rosary

Each October, the Catholic Church celebrates the Month of the Holy Rosary, giving us a special opportunity to draw closer to Jesus through His Blessed Mother.

The Rosary is more than a series of repeated prayers. It is an invitation to slow down, quiet our hearts, and walk through the life of Christ alongside Mary. Through the Joyful, Sorrowful, Glorious, and Luminous Mysteries, we reflect on some of the most important moments of our faith, from the Annunciation and birth of Jesus to His Passion, Resurrection, and beyond.

Why Is October the Month of the Rosary?

October’s connection to the Rosary is closely tied to the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary on October 7.

The feast has roots going back centuries and serves as a reminder of the Church’s longstanding devotion to Mary and belief in the power of prayer. Over time, the entire month of October became an especially meaningful time for Catholics to return to the Rosary, whether they pray it every day or are picking up their beads for the first time in years.

A Prayer That Brings Us Back to Jesus

At Mary Lives, our mission is simple: to deepen our relationship with Jesus through Mary.

The Rosary beautifully reflects that mission.

Mary never asks us to stop with her. Throughout Scripture, she continually points us toward her Son. At the Wedding at Cana, her words to the servants remain a powerful instruction for us today:

“Do whatever He tells you.” — John 2:5

When we pray the Rosary, we are following Mary as she leads us through the life of Jesus. We contemplate His love, His sacrifice, His mercy, and His promises.

And we don't have to have everything figured out before we begin.

You don't need to be an expert in the Rosary. You don't need perfect concentration. You don't even need to feel particularly close to God that day.

You simply need to begin.

Ways to Honor the Month of the Holy Rosary

This October, consider making a little more room for prayer in your everyday life. You might pray one decade of the Rosary each morning, keep a Rosary somewhere you'll see it throughout the day, learn more about the Mysteries, invite your family to pray together, or offer a Rosary for someone who needs prayer.

And if praying alone feels difficult, pray with us.

Mary Lives gathers every Monday at 7 PM EST on Zoom to pray the Rosary together. Whether you have prayed the Rosary your entire life, haven't prayed it in years, or are completely new to it, you are welcome.

Because there is something powerful about coming together in prayer.

As Jesus tells us in Matthew 18:20, “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Begin Again This October

The Month of the Holy Rosary doesn't have to mean adding another obligation to your schedule. Instead, let it be an invitation.

An invitation to slow down.

An invitation to bring your worries, gratitude, questions, and hopes to God.

An invitation to spend time with Mary and allow her to lead you closer to her Son.

This October, pick up your Rosary and simply begin.

Join Mary Lives every Monday at 7 PM EST for our live Zoom Rosary and discover how powerful prayer can be when we come together.
